Discipleship and outreach are central to our Church. We focus on both spiritual growth within the congregation and service beyond its walls. Discipleship involves guiding individuals to deepen their faith. Our outreach to the community is by sharing God’s love through service and compassion.
Supporting Our Community
The free food pantry box holds pre‑packed groceries designed to give an individual a mix of shelf‑stable staples and fresh items when available. We re-stock our box a few times per week to help our local community.

Little Free Library book-sharing boxes play an essential role by providing 24/7 access to books (and encouraging a love of reading!). We encourage our neighbors to Take a Book and Share a book.

The Presbyterian Community Center brings together a coalition of Christian resources from throughout the Roanoke Valley, including churches, caring volunteers, and professionals. The PCC offers financial assistance for rent, utilities, etc.; a food pantry; after school program, parent involvement initiatives, on-site counseling; and more.

In the summer of 2025, Northminster heard the call of God to reach out to a struggling congregation of Congolese refugees, re-settled in the Roanoke Valley. The Northminster Session extended an invitation for the Congolese congregation, called Agape, to build a partnership together. Agape, a congregation of close to 100 African refugee adults and children, now worships every Sunday afternoon in the Northminster sanctuary, shares in fellowship and mission outreach activities, and is united in prayer with the Northminster family! The Agape women's choir even sang (in their native Swahili language) at the 2025 meeting of the Presbytery of the Peaks, held at Northminster!

Little Dresses for Africa is a Christian 501c3, providing humanitarian relief to the most vulnerable of God’s children: little girls. The goal of Little Dresses for Africa is to provide relief to vulnerable children throughout the Continent of Africa and beyond. These dresses, made by volunteers from around the world (including volunteers from our Church) go out as little ambassadors to plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy. The dresses are made from pillowcases or other simple patterns.

Our church partners with local correctional facilities to bring hope, encouragement, and spiritual support to individuals who are incarcerated. We collect devotional books and faith-based reading materials to help inmates grow in their faith, experience God’s love, and find peace during a difficult season of life.

Our church supports the Salem SPCA by collecting clean, empty pill bottles to help care for animals in need. These bottles are reused veterinary staff to store medications. By donating your empty prescription or over-the-counter pill bottles (with labels removed and thoroughly cleaned), you are helping reduce waste while supporting the health and well-being of animals waiting for their forever homes.

The mission of Blue Ridge Literacy is to support achievement of life goals by providing opportunities to strengthen literacy skills to adults in western Virginia. One of our main philosophies is to keep a learner's goals and interests in mind when working with them. We support this organization through financial donations and clothing drives to support their clients.
