Meet Our Ministry Team

Dr. Russ Merritt

Minister

Russ Merritt began his pastoral work at Northminster in 2014, after serving as minister in congregations in North Carolina, Florida, and elsewhere in Virginia.  A graduate of Davidson College, he received his Doctorate in Ministry from Union Seminary and was ordained into the Gospel Ministry by the Presbyterian Church in 1976.  In the years since, he has served as a youth and family pastor, a new church developer, a program specialist, an adjunct professor, and a senior pastor of a large staff.  He loves Bible study, sharing with others the love of God in Jesus Christ, and being part of the Body of our Lord.  Russ is blessed to be married to Kay James, to be the father of Owen, Kahra, and Leslie, and the grandfather of Kadence, Lydia, and Addie.  If you ask him, he'll tell you he plays tennis poorly, his gardening produces very little, and his Cubs might have to wait another century to win the World Series!

Melissa Hudson

Director of Music

Our Director of Music collaborates with our Pastor to plan services and church programs. She directs the church choir and handbell choir, selecting appropriate music that supports sermon themes and liturgical seasons. Melissa develops musical talent within the Church and encourage participation from members of all ages and skill levels.

Church Leadership

In the Presbyterian Church, the Session is our governing body that provides spiritual leadership and business oversight for the Church. Our Minister and ruling elders meet bi-monthly for Church business. Also, our session leads our Ministry teams of: Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, and Stewardship. The ministry teams meet bi-monthly.

The Fellowship Committee is responsible for fostering a sense of community, connection, and belonging among our members. It plans and organizes opportunities for people to gather outside of formal worship—such as meals, social events, holiday celebrations, and small group activities. The committee helps create a welcoming environment for both new visitors and long-time members, ensuring that everyone feels included and valued.

Fellowship Ministry

The Worship Ministry centers on glorifying God through Christ and Scripture informed worship. This team plans special services alongside our Music Director. Ultimately, this ministry seeks to glorify God, uplift the congregation, and support the overall mission of the church by drawing people closer to Him through the power of music and worship.

Worship Ministry

The Discipleship Committee focuses on sharing the love of Christ beyond the congregation by serving and engaging with the broader community. It organizes and supports initiatives such as mission projects, charitable efforts, community service events, and partnerships with local organizations.
